I told my husband two years ago that I wanted to celebrate my 40th birthday in Mexico but I really didn’t think it would happen. When this trip presented itself (right around my birthday) I knew it was meant to be. It’s quickly become my family’s favorite trip for so many reasons. Here’s everything we did and a look at some of the wonderful memories we made.
Beach Palace Cancun
We had the opportunity to stay at two Palace Resorts all-inclusive properties. The first night we stayed at Beach Palace. It sits right on the white sandy beach and has a beautiful infinity pool. We were only there for a short period of time, but thought the property was great and the scenery was beautiful.
The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun
The next day before heading over to The Grand at Moon Palace, we went on a 3-hour snorkeling trip. This was by far one of the highlights of our vacation. I’m deathly afraid of the ocean. I had anxiety for a few weeks leading up to our trip knowing I’d have to face my fear. I kept telling myself to put on a smile for my boys because I didn’t want them to be scared. And guess what? I did it and it was seriously an AMAZING experience. Conquering your fear feels so good and I’m thankful I was able to do this. I’ll be sharing more about our snorkeling trip in a separate post because I have so much to say about it.
If you follow my blog, you know that we travel a ton with my bestie, Linda from Giggles, Gobbles and Gulps, and her family. This time not only did they come with us but my other best friend and her family joined us as well. I had no idea they would be there, so you can imagine how shocked I was when I bumped into them in the lobby. Everyone was in on the surprise and they definitely pulled it off!
When we arrived at The Grand at Moon Palace we were immediately greeted by friendly staff that handed us delicious smelling wash cloths to refresh ourselves with. As we walked into the lobby area, all of our mouths dropped open. It’s absolutely stunning! The entire resort is covered in marble. It’s so gorgeous I started second guessing having our boys with us. Boys and nice things don’t always go hand in hand. But no worries, the resort is kid friendly.
Here’s what you need to know about The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun:
- It’s a five star resort.
- It’s 10 minutes from Cancun International Airport (bonus!).
- It has 10 restaurants and 12 bars on property.
- Enjoy 9 outdoor pools and 5 swim up bars.
- There’s free Wi-Fi.
- You can order therapeutic pillows from the Pillow Menu. I highly recommend this.
- They have a bowling alley on the lobby’s lower level.
- Keep the kids busy at the Wired Teen Lounge and Playroom for kids.
- There are nightly shows and entertainment, so make sure to check the daily schedule.
- Make sure to check out the new Water Adventure Park.
- There’s a golf cart service to pick you up and drop you off at different locations at the resort.
To our surprise, we were upgraded to a Presidential Suite. This was my first stay in a suite like this and boy was it elegant. We had two bathrooms, a living room, dining room with a huge table, bar area with fully stocked refrigerator, and a master suite with an oversized balcony overlooking the water park and ocean. The room comes with a king sized bed. We ordered two smaller beds for the boys that fit perfectly in the living room area.
We didn’t spend a ton of time in our room aside from sleeping and getting ready in between activities, but we were able to sneak in some room service and have lunch at our fancy dining room table.
This trip was all about relaxation and spending quality time with family and friends. During the day, we lounged by the pool. We found a nice pool that was close to our rooms and it was never crowded. This was great because we had 6 boys between us who needed a lot of space.
I have to give a huge shout out to the Entertainment Staff at The Grand, especially Rodrigo Reyes and Jahir Martinez. They were fantastic with the kids and played games with them for over 2 hours. Our boys had huge smiles on their faces the entire time, and we loved watching them play and laugh. You could really tell that Rodrigo and Jahir love their jobs.
Quick tip: Bring a ball or football for the pool. This came in handy and kept the kids entertained for hours.
When we were not at the pool, there were definitely a lot of activities to keep the kids busy.
The Wired Teen Lounge is located off of the main lobby so we spent time there before and after dinner. You can drop off your kids if they are older than 13. This area is equipped with an arcade and console video games, Internet access, TVs playing kids’ favorite shows, and a menu of tasty sweet and savory snacks so they can eat and play.
Their ultramodern bowling alley, The Ninth Pin, is located on the lower level of the lobby area.
The Grand is currently building a water park. Only one water ride and the lazy river were opened during our visit but the rest of the area should be opened in the next few months. It’s pretty incredible! Having your own water park right on property is perfect for families.
Located in the middle of Water Adventure Park is the Playroom, an innovative kids club. They have options like game rooms, indoor jungle gym like no other, creativity area, and more. We had a great time here and the adults even got in on the action. If you need a little downtime or a rest from the sun, this is a great option.
I also got to check paddle boarding off of my bucket list. It was tough because it was rather windy and the water was choppy, but I was proud of myself for not falling or getting lost at sea, haha!
As for the dining options in this Mexican paradise, you really can’t go wrong. We tried almost every restaurant on the property during our stay, and were very impressed with the pleasant staff and the amazing food. It is SO good. It doesn’t matter if you eat at one of their buffets or at a sit down restaurant, it’s all delicious and the service is top notch.
My one recommendation is to be sure to make reservations at JC Steakhouse. Hands down our favorite restaurant on property and if you eat there, you’ll know why.
A big thank you to Palace Resorts for hosting us. It’s a trip that we’ll never forget and the memories will always stay with us.
