Thank you Inn at Pocono Manor for hosting us at your property and allowing us to create family memories.
I wasn’t much of a winter traveler until I had kids. I used to prefer to stay bundled up next to a fire, sipping on coffee, and looking at the snow fall from inside. But then I had kids. We now take them on a weekend snowboarding trip every year and to my surprise it has become one of my favorite times of the year. Last weekend, we were hosted at The Inn at Pocono Manor to enjoy their property and participate in some fun, winter activities. So naturally, my family was all in.
The best part was we got to enjoy our experience with my friend Linda from Giggles, Gobbles, and Gulps and her family. Our families met a few years ago, and they have become one of our favorite families to hang out with. We travel with them a lot and it makes everyone happy. She has two boys, so the kids have a blast and the adults get to have some fun too.
The Inn at Pocono Manor is in a great location. It’s close to Jack Frost and Big Boulder (about 20 minutes away). The resort has an old world ambiance and was nice and cozy. We stayed in a Main Manor Deluxe room that had two double beds and a sofa. It was perfect for my family. Even though we have just two boys, we need the space. It’s hard to keep them in one spot for too long, so this gave them the room they needed to move around.
The boys loved the lower level of the Inn because it had an arcade and game room. Right across from the arcade was a spacious room with big leather seats, a bar, and television. We sat in there hanging out watching the football game, while the kids played.
On the second day, we ventured off to Manor Sports which is on property. You can walk there (about a 15 minute walk) but since it was cold and snowy we drove there.
We were a little bummed because some of the winter activities we wanted to try, like ice fishing and snowmobiling, were closed because there wasn’t enough snow. But there were still plenty of fun activities for us to check out. Some of the activities are free if you stay on property, and it is also open to the public.
Winter activities at Manor Sports
- BB Guns
- Ice Fishing
- Trap Shooting
- Cross Country Skiing
- Ice Skating
We spent a few hours doing BB guns, archery, trap shooting (the dads), and then took a winter walk to see the waterfall. This turned into quite an adventure because we missed the trail that we needed to take and had to reroute.
Sometimes it’s not easy with four boys between the ages of eight and ten. They were overexcited and I think we said about a thousand times, “stop throwing snowballs at people’s faces”, “stay away from the edge of the mountain”, “point the bb gun in a safe direction”, “keep your hands to yourself”, “don’t throw rocks off the mountain”, “your hands are freezing because you keep picking up snow with bare hands”…and the list goes on and on!
When we were done, we sat around the outside fire at Manor Sports and made s’mores. Shortly after we headed back to Pocono Manor to rest and get something to eat.
There’s a few restaurant options on site at Pocono Manor. Lamplighter Lounge serves light pub fare like burgers, chicken fingers, wings, salads, and sandwiches. After a day outside, we devoured the food! The lounge has live music at nigh and it gets packed.
The Little Pocono Pizzeria serves…you guessed it pizza, wings, and ice-cream. Guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast in the Mountain View Dining Room. They have everything from fresh fruit, waffles, french toast, and bagels to omelettes made to order.
The Exchange is the Inn’s fine dining restaurant. We ate there both nights. It’s a little more upscale but comfortable. It was more on the quiet side which is probably not the best place to take four active boys. We had to keep saying “shh, you have to whisper”, which is nearly impossible to get them to do. We wised up the second night and sat adult, kid, adult, kid and this helped keep everyone in check.
The food was good at The Exchange. They do space out the courses a bit so my recommendation is to make reservations for an early dinner so there’s no chance of kids melting down.
It was a very action packed weekend, and we had such a great time! We were especially grateful to make fun memories with our friends. Thanks again to the Inn at Pocono Manor and Manor Sports for hosting us.
