Happy Friday! I’d like to introduce you to this week’s boy mom, Jeanette, and her son, Caleb!
Describe your son.
He is the most laid back kid you’ll ever meet. You could say, “Come on, Caleb, I am going bra shopping all day and you need to come with me.” He’d go and never complain. He never gets angry, annoyed or distressed about anything. For me, he is the ultimate cool kid. Kind to all others. Never judges and even goes out of his way to befriend the other kids who may be a little “different”.
How do you stay calm when surrounded by ALL that energy?
If anything, he helps me have more energy!
How do you instill gentlemanly behavior, actions, thoughts?
I try to instill him proper southern gentleman behavior. I teach him how to be well rounded. He knows how to set a proper dinner table, and to take off his hat when entering a home. He say’s yes ma’am/sir & no ma’am/sir.We teach him to say only things he’d want said to him.
What do you like to do with your son?
Caleb eats, sleep, breathes baseball. So we definitely do a lot around that. We’ll go to ball games, shop for baseball stuff or do baseball crafts.
Where is your favorite place to shop for him?
How do you maintain close relationships with your son as he ages?
I have a date night with my son all the time. It could be something a simple as laying in my bed, popping some popcorn & watching his favorite movie. Or we go out to dessert and just chat about the week.
What type of sports or activities does he participate in?
Baseball….Baseball…Baseball – and dirt biking too!
What are some books/series your son likes to read?
The magic tree house and Junie B Jones.
How do you handle violence in play? Some of this is normal “boy” behavior, but when do you feel it crosses the line? How do you guide them?
I realize some of it is normal, but I don’t let anybody say they’ve been hurt. If they do, play time is over and apologies are said. I’ve always been really lucky that he’s never really crossed that line.
When he was about 1 1/2, he was in his room playing by himself while I was making dinner. I suddenly smelled an abundance of baby powder. I walked into his room and it looked like a baby powder bomb went off. I knew my husband would be home any moment, so I simply closed the door and waited until he got home. It took us MONTHS to get rid off all that baby powder!
I love being a boy mom because ______
there is room for only one diva in my house, and that’s me! I am so grateful I didn’t get my wish of a girl! God knew what he was doing!
Give us your best boy mom tip!
Talk to him and teach him how to be a gentleman. And be the woman you’d want your son to marry. More than likely, he’ll try to find someone just like you.
The things we love to do the most are play baseball and attend Florida Gator baseball games (go Gators!) Ok, so I don’t “play”, but I make an awesome, and very loud cheerleader when he plays. Throw in white tail deer hunting and bike riding every now and then, too!
We have the best time together. Sometimes I forget that I am hanging out with a 9 year old. He loves classic rock, is very laid back and never a mean word or action out of him. He’s definitely a “go with the flow” kind of kid. I could say, “Caleb, we’re going bra shopping all day” and his response would be, “Can I get ice cream?” and he’d happily come along with me. I didn’t want to have another kid, because to me, I feel like I got everything I could have ever wanted with the first one. Plus, I figured I wouldn’t get so lucky with the second!
Thank you Jeanette for allowing me to spotlight you and your son!
Don’t forget to read about the other boy moms and their little men!
If you are interested in being featured, please fill out this form. Remember you don’t have to be a mom of all boys just one. NOTE: there’s a waiting list and I will contact you about a week or two prior to your scheduled date.
