Hello everyone! I’m sure you are going a bit crazy with Christmas literally a few days away! This will be my last boy mom feature this year and I’ll pick it back up in January. I plan on soaking up as much quality time with my family as I can over the next two weeks.

I’m super excited to introduce you to this week’s boy mom, Stephanie from A Grande Life. I met Steph a few years ago and I can say she’s super cool and lots of fun to hang out with! Not to mention, her two boys are ADORABLE!

Stephanie is an awesome photographer and I just absolutely love her blog – you must check it out!

Boy Mom Spotlight Meet Stephanie

Ethan {5/08} and Ben {5/11}

Ethan and Ben

Describe your sons.

Ethan and Ben couldn’t be any more different. Ethan is our oldest and takes after his father in more ways than I care for. Seriously, he’s a clone. He loves playing baseball and Angry Birds and has recently fallen in love with Star Wars.

Ben is very mischievous! If he shouldn’t be doing something, you can count on him doing it. He loves Super Why and Elmo. He spends most days longing to get the iPad away from his big brother and making messes all over the house.

How do you stay calm when surrounded by ALL that energy?

Honestly, most days, I don’t! It’s one of the things that I struggle with the most. Patience. I don’t have any! But, there are times that I need to remind myself that they are still little. And they will only be little once.

How do you instill gentlemanly behavior, actions, thoughts?

Ethan is growing into a little gentleman. He tells me I’m pretty {and not just when he wants something} and tells me he loves me all the time. I think he has picked this up from watching his father and I. Being a gentleman is learned.

What do you like to do with your sons?

I have had to embrace Star Wars! I went 31 years not knowing a thing about Star Wars. Then boom! Star Wars explosion in our house. Instead of resisting it, I have learned to love it. Ethan likes to point out characters and explain things to me.

How do you maintain close relationships with your sons as they age?

One thing that I would like to start with my kids are special days out with just one parent. Ethan and my husband can go off and do something. Ben and I would do something else. The next week or so we would flip. This would give each child special time each month with each parent. I think making them feel special is important.

What type of sports or activities do your sons participate in?

Ethan started t-ball last year and really took to it. He’s shy so it took him a while to get used to new faces but once he did, he flourished.

Where is your favorite place to shop for your sons?

I find a lot of the boys’ clothes at Target. I like plain t-shirts and shorts and they can be hard to find. I also do a lot of shopping at consignment sales. Boys are hard on their clothes and grow out of them so quickly!

What are some books/series your sons like to read?

Ethan and I recently started reading the Captain Underpants series and Encyclopedia Brown. Needless to say, Captain Underpants is the clear winner thanks to the potty humor! Hey, whatever gets him to take an interest in reading!

Biggest mess they’ve made

I am sure most parents have their own little Picassos running around who love to draw on walls. I have one as well! Ben left his masterpiece all over our basement closet doors! Crayon. Marker. Whatever he could get his little hands on! He just doesn’t stop at walls. A beige couch makes a nice blank canvas.

How do you handle violence in play?

Thanks to Star Wars everything is a light saber. I let it go during play time. However, I have had to step in when I start hearing “I’m going to shot you” or “I’m going to kill you.” We take a time out from playing and I explain why we don’t say those things. In reality, Ethan is only 5 and doesn’t understand the meaning behind what he is saying which is why we need to take the break and explain it.

I love being a boy mom because______

I love the way they love me!

Give us your best boy mom tip!

Best tip for other boy moms? Get down and dirty. Wrestle. Dig in the dirt. Get messy! They will think you are the coolest mom ever. I know mine do!

Stephanie’s Something Special:

If you have the Elf on the Shelf  you might be getting a bit tired of trying to think of places to hide him/her. There are only a few days left, so make sure to check out Steph’s posts for some inspiration and don’t forget to bookmark for next year!
