I’ve heard of progressive dinner parties but since I live on 3+ acres it’s pretty much impossible to participate in one.
You might be asking, what’s a progressive dinner party? It’s basically a party where each successive course is eaten at a different host’s house…the guests progress from place to place.
It’s like a traveling dinner party! Instead of bringing food to one house, you get to travel from house to house for each course. This really takes the stress off of one host and also makes it a fun and exciting evening.
I’ve had a few friends participate in one and they were nice enough to share some tips for starting a progressive dinner party of your own:
- Select the hosts – keep the number small between 3 and 4
- Make sure the homes are in walking distance
- Develop a menu making sure the dishes compliment each other
- Serve foods that are easy to prepare ahead of time
- Enlist help to heat up your dishes about 20 minutes before everyone is scheduled to arrive
- Give everyone enough time to eat, chat, and walk to the next house
- Have kids? Hire a babysitter to watch the kids at one house or set-up a kids’ table at each house
Some ideas for courses & entertainment:
- Cocktails and appetizers
- Soup and/or salad
- Main course
- Desserts and after dinner drinks
- Board games / dancing
- Finish the night with a bonfire!
I love entertaining and I think this would be a lot of fun to participate in — but how when I live on a busy road and have neighbors that live far apart?
Well, virtually of course!
I’ve teamed up with a bunch of awesome bloggers to help you plan your next progressive dinner party or if you just want to try out a few of these yummy recipes, that’s cool too!
We are sharing recipes for cocktails, apps, salads, main courses, after dinner drinks, coffee, and desserts. Plus, we even put together a playlist and eco-friendly entertaining ideas!

This is one of my favorite recipes to cook when I’m having company over. I think the reason I love this recipe is because of the homemade dressing, delish!
This is also an easy salad to make ahead of time (just don’t add the dressing until you are ready to serve).
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
- 2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 pounds chicken breast strips {tenders}
- 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon-pepper seasonings
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 8 cups shredded romaine lettuce
- 2 Roma Tomatoes
- 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Combine first 3 ingredients, stir well, set aside.
- Dredge chicken in lemon-pepper seasoning and garlic powder.
- Pour oil into a large skillet and place over medium-high heat until hot.
- Remove chicken from skillet, reserving drippings in skillet; drain chicken on paper towel.
- Remove skillet from heat, stir vinegar mixture into reserved drippings, scraping particles that cling to bottom of skillet.
- Add chicken & tomatoes to bed of lettuce.
- Pour warm vinegar dressing over the meal. Toss!
- Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
Notes
If you prefer, you can grill the chicken and use this dressing recipe:
1. Mix a 1/4 cup of Balsamic Vinegar w/ a splash of Olive Oil {I actually keep a dressing bottle in the fridge with this pre-made mixture}
2. Season chicken with different flavors. I tried a lemon & lime seasoning and it was delicious! Be creative and use whatever type of spices you have on hand.
If you want to change things up a bit, you can grill the romaine lettuce and add your dressing of choice. I think this looks a bit fancier if you have guests over.
Again, another recipe that you can easily make ahead of time allowing you to enjoy time with your company.

Ingredients
- 2-3 Packages of Chicken Strips
- 1-2 Head of Romaine Lettuce
- 1 Tbsp Olive oil
- Minced garlic
- 1 Tsp Sea salt
- 1-2 Tomatoes
- Salad toppings
- Fresh Parmesan Cheese
- Caesar Dressing
Instructions
- Marinate or season chicken and grill.
- Cut the romaine lettuce down the middle.
- Marinate the lettuce in a Ziplock bag with olive oil, garlic, and some sprinkles of sea salt. Make sure lettuce is coated well.
- Grill the lettuce for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Place lettuce on a serving plate and top with chicken, tomatoes, dressing, cheese, and your favorite toppings!
- Enjoy!
Notes
If you are short on time, you can buy precooked and grilled chicken strips.
