From The Kitchen | Turkey Chili Recipe

One of my favorite things to do when my husband is home is cook. He keeps the boys occupied while I try out new recipes. Plus, there is nothing like making comfort food when it’s cold and damp outside.

Last weekend, I had the whole family over for dinner (in celebration of my Dad’s new job). Since it was rainy out, I decided Turkey Chili would be the perfect meal to warm us up.

I kept the chili on low all day, put together a few toppings, and let my guests (aka the fam) dish themselves. My oldest son even gave it a try, but unfortunately my 4-year-old turned his nose up (I hope he gets over this picky stage soon).

I made enough to enjoy the following night for dinner, which worked out great for a lazy Sunday.

This recipe is super easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packs (1lb+) ground lean turkey
  •
2 fresh red peppers (or green)
  •
1 small onion
  •
2 cans 28oz Crushed Tomatoes in Tomato Puree
  • 1 can 15oz of tomato sauce
  •
2 packs of taco seasoning
  • 2 cans 15oz Kidney Beans
  • Chili seasoning
  •
Olive Oil
  • Toppings: shredded cheddar cheese & sour cream
  • Optional: fresh bread or taco chips

Directions:

1. Pour all of the sauces into a large pot and simmer on medium heat.

2. Add some chili seasoning (I don’t measure, just add until it tastes good) to the sauce.

3. Drain the beans and add them to the sauce.

4. Slice and dice the onion & peppers.

5. In a pan, add a small amount of olive oil & set to medium heat. Next, add the onion and peppers. Sauté for a minute or two. Turn the heat down to medium low and put a lid on it. Don’t forget to stir occasionally until the veggies soften (about 10 mins).

6.  While veggies are cooking, brown both packs of turkey and add the Taco Seasoning according to the directions on the pack.

7. Once the veggies are done, add them to the sauce, stir
.

8. Next, add the seasoned ground turkey to the sauce, stir again.

9. Let the pot simmer on low for a few hours (making sure to occasionally stir the sauce). The longer, the better.

10. I created a little “help yourself” station next to the pot of chili that included bowls, spoons and toppings (cheese, sour cream, chips and fresh bread).

After our dinner, we gave a toast to my Dad! He retired last year and just landed his ultimate dream job, where he will be working for our area’s major league baseball team. If you know him, you know what a great fit this is for him!

Cheers to you Dad, so proud of you! XOXO

I love chili but can never get my kids to eat it but i always use chili spices, I wonder if they would like it with the taco seasonings since it doesn’t have as much spice. Thanks for sharing your recipeTina.
