If you are thinking what I think you are, that’s not what this post is all about.
Let’s face it, at some point in our lives we had to fake it. Being sick on a perfect beach day, a tidy car on carpool day, liking your kids’ friends and their parents and even looking thinner in photographs (we’ve all sucked it in at some point).
There is just too much to do in the day and not enough time to get it all done.
Here goes my confession {taking a deep breath}…I’ve faked that I made cupcakes for my son’s school party. Whew that felt good to get that out. I know, I don’t like myself for doing this either.
I had every intention of telling the other room moms that I picked up the goodies at a local bakery until I walked into the classroom.
One mom was talking about how she stayed up all night to make cake pops, while another mom made desserts that looked like a show piece right out of a magazine. Here I am holding a box of store bought cupcakes when one mom said, “Wow did you make them?”
I had to think fast and before I knew it I blurted out, “Yes, I bake all of the time.” This is so far from the truth, but hey they don’t know that.
Jennifer Byrne is here to tell us that we are not alone and the mom that stayed up all night to make cake pops, probably ordered them from the bakery down the street.
In her book, Fake It, Jennifer shares more than 100 shortcuts and wonderfully constructed little white lies, that we can use. She says, “No one is perfect, but we can all fake it!”
This book is special to me for two reasons; one – my cousin’s friend, Jennifer, is the author of the book (how cool!) and two – I couldn’t put the book down because it’s chock-full of awesome ideas that I’m not ashamed to use!
I’ve shared why it’s ok to have unfolded clothes and how to use it to your advantage. Seriously, we can’t possibly do it all and you know what? It’s ok!
Some of my favorite sections from the book:
- Liking a crappy dinner at a friend’s house – yum this is good….NOT!
- Clean hair when finding the time to shower is impossible – #1 on my list!
- Showing interest in your partner’s favorite sports team – Yawn!
- Confidence during an important presentation – of course I know that answer…..
- A clean bathroom and immaculate kitchen when unexpected guests arrive – where can I hide the dirty dishes?
This book would be the perfect gift for a girlfriend, sister or even as a bridal shower gift to let the newly married woman know….you don’t have to be perfect. Check it out on Amazon – it’s only $10.83 – what a steal!
Confession time! Tell me one (or more if you feel brave enough) ways you have faked it!
Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post and I don’t receive any kick back. I just think it’s a must-read for every woman!

Fortunate for me we aren’t allowed to take home baked foods to my kid’s school. Everything has to be store bought. That’s probably a good thing for them too since I don’t do well in the kitchen.

Haha that’s why I buy….so NOT a baker!
Sounds like a good one! I’ll have to look into it.
I haven’t faked baking, or a whole lot in my life really, but now that I have a daughter I’m sure I have a lifetime of faking to come.
