How To Carve A T-Rex Watermelon

by Life Without Pink on June 27, 2012

Last weekend, my sister had a dinosaur themed party for her step-son’s birthday.

She’s very creative and decided to try and make a T-Rex Watermelon, which came out pretty awesome.

I can’t take the credit for it but thought it was super cute not to share.

What You Will Need:

  1.  1 round Watermelon
  2. 20 {or so} toothpicks for teeth
  3. 2 cherries for the eyes
  4. Marker
  5. Melon Baller
  6. Mixed fruit

How To Carve Your Watermelon:

  1. Scrub and wash the watermelon.
  2. With a marker, trace out the mouth design on the watermelon.
  3. Cut the mouth open and scope out excess watermelon. She found it easier to use a melon baller.
  4. Using the extra pieces of rind, cut out nostrils and eyebrows.
  5. Very lightly carve out a place for the eyes using the melon baller. Make sure not to go too deep.
  6. Cut two cherries in half, keeping the seed intact.
  7. Place each cherry inside the freshly carved out area for the eyes to give them an eery look.
  8. Cut up fruit {any type} and fill the mouth. We also placed the watermelon on a big platter and put fruit all around.
  9. Add toothpicks to the top and bottom of the mouth to give your T-Rex sharp teeth!

I just showed this to Bean, my 8 yr old daughter, and she freaked out. We are having people over on Friday night and they are all bringing their kids. Looks like I will be shopping for a watermelon. Thanks for sharing. This will be a big hit!
