I try to keep organized and on top of everything going on in my household. If I don’t write everything down in my calendar, I will completely forget about it.
For the two weeks I’ve been telling my son, “Monday is your last day of school.”
I had my hubby take a half day to surprise my son when he gets home. We are planning to take him out for a big celebration tonight to officially kick off summer and the fact that he graduated to first grade.
Today, the bus pulled up and as my son got on he handed the bus driver a gift.
She thanked him and turned to me and said, “Isn’t he going to be here tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow is the last day of school,” she said.
WHAT?
As soon as I got back into the house, I picked up the phone and dialed the school.
“This is a crazy question, but is today or tomorrow the last day of school?”
“Tomorrow,” the woman on the other end said.
Oh my god, how could I mess this up?
Not only did I make my hubby switch his schedule around but I’ve been telling my son that today is his last day.
How am I going to convince him he needs to go back to school one more day?
I’m thinking of saying they added an extra day so he can say good-bye to all of his friends.
I hope he takes it ok.
Have you ever had a Mom fail like this?

OMG! I totally like your idea though! I think he will def go for it! I had a total mom fail yesterday.
we went to my uncle & aunt’s house for a Father’s Day swimming party. i packed the bag with towels, sunscreen, and all the party essentials. I made 2 dips, brought my required napkins, father’s day cards, and i forgot his SWIM SUIT!!!!! He had to sit there while all of the other kids were playing in the pool until my mom arrived with his suit. I felt AWFUL! Luckily, after sulking for a few minutes, he headed inside & played with my cousin’s toys until his suit arrived. But, I still felt AWFUL!
Oh no!!! I am surprised he didn’t jump right in, lol.
I have done things like that before when it comes to school…especially the early dismissal days. Thankfully, I have the parents at my bus stop to keep me in check or I know I would have it all screwed up. My girls would actually be thrilled to hear their school added a day. Both of my girls love school and seeing their friends so much that they would definitely hop on that bus tomorrow.
Good luck with your son!

He was dancing outside while waiting for his bus saying, “I love school”, so maybe it won’t be so bad?? That’s what I’m hoping!
Oh, only MISSING final games of their soccer tournaments and things
Yeah, wish I could tell you it gets better.
But the stakes only get higher.

Haha, you always make me smile!
I did almost the same thing a number of years ago. School had half days for conferences and I was at the corner waiting for the bus. I waited, and waited and waited. After about 45 minutes I called the school to see if there was a problem and the secretary sounded confused and said “the buses haven’t even arrived yet”. I said then how are the kids getting home from early release”. There was a long pause and then she said “that’s tomorrow an Thursday”. I was mortified. And what made it worse was I was super involved at the school and she had recognized my voice…she told me she knew it was me the next time I was in the office. I just wanted to crawl in a hole.

Oh no! I can’t wait to read that story
I’ve lost my son’s favorite toy before, not fun.
Oh my… I have had many mom fails over the years! It’s part of the territory I think especially when you’re juggling work, multiple kids, and everything else. It happens… but the best that you can do is apologize.

You are right! Thankfully my son is ok with it. He loves school and said, “It’s one more day I get to see my friends.” He made me feel better!
I had it the other way around. I thought my son’s last day was last wednesday, it was tuesday AND it was a half day. Thankfully I realized this on Monday afternoon, it would’ve been the worst kinda mom fail if I sent him to the bus stop during summer vacation

OMG I am cracking up {sorry}. This made me smile. We’ve all been there!
I would just let him miss tomorrow. It’s the last day, nothing special so might as well stay with your plans for a special day.

yeep!! I think that if it will be a huge deal, just keep him home — Nolie is right, there is nothing too special that will happen anyway
also, don’t beat yourself up — we all do that from time to time

So much thanks…
Well, she started crying and that turned into a full blown meltdown. I attributed it to the fact she was in the … She stopped crying. Total mom fail!
