I know some people check their stats daily, maybe a few times a day.
They thrive on seeing high numbers.
But are numbers really everything?
I think brands/companies need to look at the entire picture.
How does the blogger’s presence look on twitter? Facebook? Do they belong to any other communities? Are they working with other brands?
Some bloggers have great numbers – even mind blowing numbers, while other bloggers thrive more on Facebook or Twitter.
And that’s ok.
We all have our strong points and hopefully brands recognize this.
I have heard too many times that bloggers feel down because their numbers aren’t as high as the girl sitting next to her.
And they are reminded too many times by that person.
There is nothing wrong with being proud of your numbers, but you should never feel discouraged because of someone else.
Remember we ALL have something to give and we ALL have our strong points.
My strong point is building relationships, campaigns and networking.
I know I’m not the best writer but that’s ok with me. It’s NOT my strong point.
I do try to write like I’m chatting with girlfriends over lunch and I think that’s why I can connect with others.
So here is the thing. Numbers aren’t everything.
Use your voice and your skills, where you will succeed the most.
Maybe you are a rock star putting together out-of-the-box campaign ideas or have a knack for generating a lot of conversation on Facebook.
Go with what you are good at and don’t compare yourself to others.
Remember to be YOU because there is no one else out there like YOU.

Thanks Ronnie!
I think it’s hard not to compare ourselves with other bloggers but really, that is not going to help us. I don’t really look at my stats anymore or the number of followers I have. Instead I focus on am I creating an engaging community on the platforms I use. And I believe I am so I will continue to do that.
I hope other learn not to stress over numbers or trying to be like someone else.

That’s exactly what I do. I will go weeks without checking my stats. I prefer to focus on engaging in the community. Numbers are just numbers!

It’s true that it’s not about numbers, but it’s sometimes hard to let that go.
Not that I want to be a rock star at blogging, but when you post sometimes, you really want people to read it. it’s really nice to hear someone say that it’s not about numbers.

I look at the engagement my post gets…the comments and interaction. For me, that’s how I determine my numbers

Looking at my numbers isn’t my favorite. It can be discouraging, though, when trying to build relationships and needing to fill out something with those numbers there in front of me in black and white. I like the idea of focusing on our strengths!

Yes I agree. I hate when a brand just looks at numbers and not everything else you are doing. I think they are missing out when they do this.

I totally agree! Numbers aren’t everything and they shouldn’t be the only thing that we are judged by because in all reality there is so much more that we can do than what the numbers convey!
I look at my stats rarely because I’m not worried about it and the brands that I have worked with so far haven’t asked about them.

Same here. I dont look at my numbers that often. For me it’s so much more than that – glad you agree!
I agree!! Truthfully, I am kind of over the numbers game. I used to worry about my stats and how many page views, etc. I received. But now? I’d rather just measure how I’m doing as a blogger by the comments I get on my blog and Facebook. It’s all about the community you can build rather than how many times someone loads your website. At least, to me it is.

EXACTLY! I feel the same way!
This is such a wonderful point: Remember to be YOU because there is no one else out there like YOU.
Stats aren’t everything. They are far from most things, in fact.

You are so right…thanks for stopping by!
I have to comment for two reasons. First, today (probably due to a poor night of sleep) I feel discouraged about blogging. I should note that in February I received the most page views I’ve received since January 2011. Yet I still feel blah about blogging right now. I keep thinking there are so many better, prettier, more informative, more creative blogs than mine.
Second, I just read today’s post on Marc and Angel Hack Life, called “10 Ways People Choose Happiness.” The first point was related to what you wrote. You should go check it out.
Maybe March will be the month I stop looking at stats. Yeah right. Ok, I’ll be more realistic–maybe March will be the month I stop worrying about stats and check them occasionally, rather than daily (and on the really bad days, hourly).
Thanks for the reminder!

So glad this post can help a bit. Numbers are just a small part of the big picture, remember that. In order to grow, don’t focus on numbers but more of your engagement, posts and conversations on-line.
Btw, here’s the link to that Marc and Angel Hack Life post I mentioned but forgot to link to: http://www.marcandangel.com/2012/03/01/10-ways-happy-people-choose-happiness/

Thank you! I will check it out.
I’m definitely “small time” blogging, but I really just enjoy working on my writing skills and meeting new people. This is a great reminder to keep everything in perspective.

This is a good reminder for me. As a brand, I find I’m constantly checking my numbers, comparing them with last year, last week, last month and so on. I think I just need to remember what I’ve accomplished and be happy. Permanently.

Yes! Numbers is a small part of the bigger picture
Thank you for that post….there are times when I have to remind myself of exactly that!

I agree with your message whole heartedly. I’m a new blogger and I started my blog primarily for me as a creative outlet but at the same time, we’re all human right? A big part of the online community and blogging is about connecting with other people and sharing your story – feeling like there are other people who can identify with your story and some of the challenges and successes you may be have. I think that as humans, we all strive for some acknowledgement and recognition. So yes, I do look at my numbers but it frustrates me that I can get upset about the number that I may see. After all, what number is good enough? I too need to remember that the numbers in and of themselves don’t tell the whole story or a complete indicator of me or my accomplishments.

It can be very overwhelming and upsetting. Try only looking once a week. Concentrate more on the writing, engagement on twitter and FB and interaction you are getting on your blog. For me, it’s all about the conversation & I try to start a dialogue centered around my posts.
I get caught up in numbers a lot, but what I really and truly want is more reader engagement!

Yes that’s what I strive for. Try asking a question at the end of your posts – that always helps!
