Elf on the Shelf; What’s Your Elf’s Name?

by Life Without Pink on December 2, 2011

Thanksgiving night I read my two tired boys a bedtime story, tucked them into bed, and gave them each a big kiss and hug.

As I started to walk out the door I heard in a tiny whisper, “Mom, Buddy the Elf is coming tonight, right?”

I could hear the squeeching of the breaks.

How could we forgot!

After the kids fell asleep, my hubby and I went up into the attic and ripped opened boxes until we found Buddy.

Ahhh Buddy!

The next morning the first thing the boys did was went looking for him.

My three-year old’s eyes lit up and he had a grin from ear to ear.

That day when my older son got home from school, he started telling me the names of all his friends’ Elves.

Some I’ve heard before, others were completely random and others, well let’s just say…they were unique.

I’m sure it’s no surprise how we got the name Buddy. When he arrived on our door step two years ago, the movie “Elf” was big.

My boys were young, one and three, so my hubby took it upon himself to help them name our Elf…and Buddy it was!

Yes, we are original.

So I was curious, what have others named their Elves;

Now we all know, moving the Elf every single night can get quite tiring, don’t you think?

Especially when your son wakes up at 4:30am to go to the bathroom and then wakes you up out of a dead sleep to say, “Do you think Buddy is back yet?”

Nothing like moving your Elf at 4:30am!

And we always run out of ideas on where to put him, there are only so many spots in the house.

I know it’s so cute, even though he is a little creepy looking :) Hoping it’s something they can pass down to their kids!

Our kids are 2 and 3 and we totally forgot what our older son named him last year (now remember it was Roger) so we renamed the Elf. His new name is Poppy.

Great post Tina! Thanks for including me.

Buddy is a great name- my son named his Elf “Elf THE shelf” … doesn’t get more unoriginal than that. ha My daughter has since renamed him Chippy (from the movie)

Ours is Freddie – AND, I forgot to move him last night – so my 7 year old wondered allowed at 5:!5 am if there is another way he could lose his magic (aside from touching him) but them my husband moved him at 5:20 when he came home from the gym and managed to convince her Freddie was probably just confused when he came back and sat in the wrong spot…. :) Magic!

Can you believe I can’t get an Elf in France. I was even willing to pay outrageous shipping and it’s a no go! So sad…hopefully one will sneak on the plane with my mom when she arrives in December.

OK, I’ve been saying this a few places, because our Elf is totally AWESOME in that my kids? Believe beyond belief that he is magic. I love it. We got him when my big boy was 3, and little brother was an infant. I asked him what to name the elf, he replied “Chink.” At 3 – it could have no meaning other than a random word. So for that year, Chink was moved about every night, etc. I did not write that name in the book and the next year when he showed up, I asked the boys what his name was and they went with “Joe.” Whew!

I just did shopping for my Aunt & got her an Elf for her younger boys & granddaughters. (Yes, she has grown children w/ children of their own and has 4 young boys she adopted) I was SOOO upset when every single Elf I saw was the same! Brown hair, Light skin, Blue eyes. The box “claims” they come in different combinations. Her 4 young boys are all brown skin, brown/black hair & brown eyes! I wanted a BROWN ELF!!!! I have no clue what they named their Elf but, I am still angry that not a brown elf was to be found!!!

Like your sons, my oldest was too young to name our elf himself when we got him. I was pregnant with our now 20-month-old at the time, and we were considering the name “Cormac” for him. When Cormac got vetoed as a baby name, we decided we liked it enough to name our elf that instead. And I panic every morning when I remember that Cormac has not moved.

We don’t have an elf on the shelf … but my son’s teacher did the elf last year in school! I think the elf on the shelf is an ugly elf (I am mean, I know) so I ordered a GUND elf and it should be here (and appear) this week. It’s probably late to start this – both this year and in general – but I am going to! (My kids are 7 and 3.)

We will give him a name as soon as he shows up! :D

That list is great! Thanks for sharing! I am surprised by all the duplicates!

This is our first year doing Elf on the Shelf and we named our elf: Wally the Elf. I am having so much fun with it but feel like I am already running out of clever hiding places…especially since we are not fully decorated for Christmas. I have to look around each night to see where I could put him where I won’t need to move him to decorate or get to something else.

We’re SO original in our house. (We have animals named Oreo, Blue and Brownie, dolls named Baby Boy, and stuffies named Big Bear and Big Dog….LOL) The kids named our Elf, you’ll never guess, Elfie!

This is beyond adorable.

We still use the Elf from MY days as a little girl.

And we still have fun. It’s become more fun since the kids became teens, b/c now we can do all the PG-13…like hanging from the shower stall, etc.

SO MUCH FUN.

My son named the elf Ben – after the cat, but my husband didn’t like it and started calling him Elfie – the lack of originality bugged me so I am insisting we spell it Alfie!

When I walked into the store to buy our Elf, all I could find were the new Elves. I finally walked up to an associate and asked her, “Do you have any of the creepy looking elves anywhere in the store?” She started laughing and said, “Yes, we keep a stack of them close to the entrance to the restrooms.” I think they keep them back there because they think those elves are creepy looking too and don’t want them staring at them all day ;-)

We have 2… yeah.. 2. Filbert got lost during the remodel of 2011, so his brother Filmore was happy to fill in while Filbert was on a ” A super secret Santa Mission” Upon finding Filbert in a box, he came “home” with a letter from Santa, telling my daughter that they BOTH could stay… and boy do they cause mischief.. yesterday it was marshmallow snowmen, this morning, the Christmas Tree was teepeed… with Filmore (the more mischievous of the two) all wrapped up while Filbert looked innocently on. The reaction of my daughter each morning?? Priceless..

This is our first year to have an elf and our 3 little girls are having a blast trying to find her each morning. She has been on the top of the tree, the headboard of OUR bed (seeing which ones climb in bed with momma and daddy), top of the refrigerator and this morning, she was in the cabinet enjoying a Nutter Bar. We named our elf, Eva Lee Frost. The first letters of each name spells out ELF. Have a Merry Christmas.
