I love holiday traditions! As a family, it gives us something to look forward to each year.
This past weekend, we took our third trip to Lancaster, PA to see Santa on the Strasburg Railroad Santa Express. This has become something that the boys look forward to every year.
My 5 year old couldn’t sleep the night before. He was so excited to have the chance to meet Santa again and of course get a little treat from him.
It happened to be a beautiful day – in the mid 60′s – which honestly is quite unheard of at this time of the year.
We boarded the Santa Express and traveled down the tracks to Paradise, PA and back.
The boys were able to shake Santa’s hand and get a photo with him. Their smiles went from ear to ear, they were in heaven!
We also had the chance to sit back and listen to beautiful music and live singing while checking out the beautiful scenery.
It’s always a magical time!
Our day didn’t end there. After we enjoyed Strasburg Railroad, we then headed off to the Choo Choo Barn right down the street.
I’ve never really had an interest in trains until I had two boys.
I have to say this place is so cool! It is a 1700 square feet model train layout and features over 150 hand-built animated figures and vehicles and 22 operating trains…it’s pretty incredible!
I love our little tradition and it’s a great way for us to kick off the holiday season!

Ooh, I think my son would LOVE this trip! How long does it take to get there from South NJ, roughly? Is it an easy drive? Thanks for posting this, as it gives me ideas!!!

It’s about a 1hr 20min, but an easy drive. We go every year, it’s so much fun and you can spend an entire day there. Kids love it!

Wow, my boys would love that. I wish we had something like that closer to us, though Lancaster is on the way to my parents’ house for Christmas!

That looks like so much fun! I’m sure your boys will always remember this amazing tradition you have. We haven’t really established any traditions of our own, but I’m hoping that once we are settled for good and no longer expatriated we can begin our traditions.
