Moments That Tug At My Heart

by Life Without Pink on September 27, 2011

Saturday we carried our coolers and chairs through the wet grass to watch my 5 year old play soccer.

I wasn’t particularity thrilled with getting wet, but my son had been looking forward to playing soccer all week.

My hubby was loving it because Big A was a warrior out there. Everywhere the ball was…he was. He never ran so hard and fast in his life and after a day playing soccer in the mud he was beat {and a bit dirty}!

But a few things happened that were a bit unexpected;

First, about a half hour into the game we start seeing my son making a weird “O” shape with his mouth. He stood still in the field, moving his mouth back and forth.

All of a sudden he screams at the top of his lungs, “Mom I know how to whistle!” He comes darting over to me as we wave to him to get back on the field.

He ran over made the “O” shape with his face again and started clapping, “Mom that’s so cool!”

Next, he starts running back and forth on the field trying to kick the ball away from the other team. As he is in mid-sprint he stops dead in his tracks, bends over and then starts skipping over to the sidelines where we were sitting.

“Mom I picked a flower for you”, he stood there holding a yellow dandelion with a huge smile on this face.

“I love you Mom,” he said as he runs back onto the field.

You could hear the crowd of people, “Ahhhh how sweet”.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment.

Last, we were about ten minutes away from being done. My son was sweaty and completely filthy from running through the mud.

He turns around in the middle of the field, faces us and pulls his shorts up all the way to his underwear, “Look Dad I’m a dirt ball!”

His little white chicken legs stuck out and were completely covered in dirt and grass.

He thought it was hilarious and started running while holding his pants up.

My heart was completely full on Saturday.

It really is the little moments that mean so much, ones that will stick with you for years to come.

What’s one small moment that you will carry with you forever?

How sweet!

My daughter is learning to crochet. When I’m mad at her, she will make something for me. It’s hard to be mad after something like that.

What fun! Sounds like he was quite entertaining out on the field. LOL

My favorite moment from the past week was watching Buster learn to ice skate. At first he was just falling all over, but then he started to get it, and he was moving on the ice. Both me and my oldest son were so excited. I said, “I’m so proud of him” and my oldest said, “Me too Mom. He’s doing great!” I could have cried right then.

What sweet moments to cherish forever. There have been so many favorite moments over the years but my favs usually come from my son who makes me work the hardest for them. The most recent when he came down the stairs, walked up to me and said, “I will love you forever, mommy.” I melted right then!

I love that you’re like me…

that you revel in these moments.

I do, too, through eyes that brim with tears.

Oh! How sweet and beautiful! I love it. I love little boys…I have one now but hope if we have a second, it’ll be another. Gosh, the flower part? SO wonderful.

Right now, my favorite memories are when he falls asleep in my arms, and of course the uncontrollable laughing when I tickle him.
