My Valentine’s Day Story
Fifteen years ago, on February 14th I went on a date with a guy I barely knew.
I was still in high-school and I worked with him at a local store in our community.
We flirted with one another and talked occasionally on our breaks. He always gave me butterflies.
Finally he asked me out….and I said No. I was only eighteen and he was a few years older than me….I was nervous and felt like I barely knew him.
But he was persistent and continued to ask me out….I finally said yes.
It was Valentine’s Day and he wanted to take me to dinner.
I told him that I had ” to study” but we could go to a movie.
It was a lie. I didn’t have to study. The truth – I was a bit nervous to eat in front of him. I envisioned a big chunk of spinach stuck between my teeth or my breath reeking of garlic. This freaked me out!
So my thought was if we went to a movie and I didn’t like him, we didn’t need to talk {remember this is a naive 18 yr old girl speaking}.
He picked me up with a dozen roses in his arms and introduced himself to my family. We stayed for a bit so that my parents could meet him. I remember thinking how polite and comfortable he seemed around my family.
After the movie, we sat in his car for awhile just talking and listening to music.
I realized, I like this guy and I remember thinking “Why didn’t I go out with him sooner?”
We went on a several dates after that and eight years later we got married.
Meeting my husband and taking the chance with him, was the best thing that I ever did. He changed my life for the better.
I am more in love with him today than I have ever been. He has truly been a blessing to me and I couldn’t imagine having a better Valentine’s!

Aw, what a sweet story. Your man sounds like a real gentleman – flowers and all! Very nice.
Can you imagine if you never gave in and went out on a date with him?!?!
It sounds like he’s a pretty good guy! Flowers & chatting w/your parents comfortably on the first date! Amazing!

Love the romantic stories.
When I met Ian, I was involved so I spent two weeks trying to fix him up with my girlfriends … he hung in there, wondering when I would see the light.
And finally, I did.

Sounds pretty awesome to me!!! Very cool to know the story behind the “corn field people”
Very sweet. Far, far better than the guy I spent Valentine’s Day with when I was 18. I’d be weeping if I’d married him
I am a corn field person too. LOL How about just being corney…..is that ok? LOL<3

Awh, how sweet. I think no matter how young or old we are when we meet “the one,” part of the magic is not knowing all the future holds and then looking back years later and seeing how lucky you are that it all worked out.

Amazing how those little decisions we make can transform our lives! After a boring 2nd date with my husband I almost didn’t go out with him again but my friend who set us up told me to give him one more chance. I’m glad I did!
