Rock With Me

by Life Without Pink on January 24, 2011

I looked down at his little nose and lightly caressed his face with my fingertips. His head was nestled in my arms and his tiny hand gently rested on my chest.

Every few minutes I would breathe in, smelling his sweet, freshly bathed hair. This was our special time at night. Just him and I.

I would study his little body, hoping that one day I wouldn’t forget how small and delicate he was.

I would hold him so tightly, not wanting to let go. For some reason being with him, made my worries vanish.

I treasured these special moments.

****************************************

The other night after bath time my husband took my two-year old downstairs to get a drink. I was sitting in the rocking chair waiting for them to come back upstairs when my four–year old jumped into my lap.

He snuggled his head into my chest and wrapped his arms around me.

And we rocked.

I was overcome with emotion because it has been so long since we have done this together and I missed it. His eyes slid shut and I could feel his breathing becoming steady.

I hummed a few songs to him as he drifted off into a light sleep.

I didn’t want to let him go and I knew it was only a matter of minutes before we would be separated.

I studied his features, now slightly bigger but still so delicate.

He is beautiful, I thought.

A few moments later, my two-year old flew up the stairs and woke my four-year old up.

He looked at me, grabbed my face with his tiny hands and said, “Mom, I love rocking with you.”

He gently gave me a kiss and hugged him.

I wanted to melt.

I honestly think the few minutes in the rocking chair at the end of each day are my favorite out of all. Such blissful, innocent moments. Glad your “big” boy was able to share that with you.

what a beautiful story! Only another mom can understand exactly how you felt. I remember bringing my baby home from the hospital and looking at my 2yo and thinking wow, she is so big all of a sudden!

So sweet. So true. My son is now 13 and if he got on my lap it would no longer be sweet. Sigh.

But oh, how I remember rocking him. And watching him sleep in my arms. And those declarations of love.

I absolutely relate to wanting to memorize each facial feature; to solidify the moment forever in your memory. In your heart.

How lucky we are to be loved like that. And even luckier to love back first.

I am melting over here. That is just too sweet. The other days I saw a 13 year old girl holding hands with her mom and I prayed that my kids still hold my hands sometimes. We need to take whatever they will give us right?

Love it! So sweet. :)

I had a nice quiet moment with my son this morning. He woke early this morning and lay quietly and ever so intently staring at his hands, then my face, then back to his hands. Ahhhh – treasure those moments!

Awwwwwwww. My life is without pink too, and being in the rocking chair with a little head resting on my shoulder is my favorite time.

SO sweet! I love those moments when our kids “come back” to us. My 8 year old still does. She loves to hug and sometimes she asks to sit on my lap. Such a sweet feeling. A little part of me melts every time!

Tina,
That is soooo sweet! I love my little cuddle bug too. I hope our boys never stop snuggling with their mommy!

Although, my hubby tells me that it will be weird when B is like twenty to snuggle with him! LOL

ooooh! I loved rocking with my babies…it was my favorite. Now they don’t need me to do that for them anymore…and I miss it so much. But occasionally they linger in a hug or snuggle long enough for me to breathe them in…and it makes my heart warm. I love those little dudes. Mommies are special. What a wonderful moment with your little man…precious and perfect!

Sometimes in the craziness of newborn world people don’t realize to take it all in. These times are so special and go so fast.
