One of the best things about blogging {besides meeting really awesome people} is the chance to participate in really cool events.
Last Wednesday, my family and I were invited to an overnight East Coast Blogger Meet-up in Lancaster, PA. It was absolutely fabulous!
The two days were such a whirlwind though.
We had events scheduled for us on Wednesday and Thursday and let’s just say by Thursday night I conked out early! The 100 degree weather didn’t help much, but my boys were such troopers the entire time.
We only live about a hour and half from Lancaster and I never knew how much fun it was!
We arrived on Wednesday and met everyone at the Strasburg Rail Road. We got to ride the train which the boys absolutely LOVED. Big A even asked for a Conductor’s hat before we boarded the train to make it official.
Then we enjoyed the fun extras like the cranky cars, pump car and little shops.
After lunch we visited the Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, and spent the rest of the day there.
Both my husband and Big A wanted to try our luck at the corn maze, so we headed there first.
It is 5-acres and made up of 2.5 miles of paths!
Within 20 minutes we were all exhausted from the heat and met up with Elizabeth and her family. Thankfully her older son is a boy scout in the making and was able to help us find our way out before we were burnt to a crisp.
This is an aerial shot of the corn maze – pretty crazy, right?
We are looking forward to going back in the fall to conquer the entire maze.
Little B got to hold a chick for the first time, and he was so into it. He stood there for quite some time holding them, and I was so proud of him for being such a big boy.
The boys and Dad got to take a wagon ride while mom rested her feet and sat in a nice shaded area for a few minutes.
After our long day of activities, we finally headed to the Marriott Lancaster at Penn Square.
Let me just say, if you are taking a trip to Lancaster and planning to spend the night, this is the place to stay.
The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the beds are super comfy! It was so nice that my older son kept asking if we could live there and was sad when we had to leave {seriously the kid keeps asking to go back}.
I even heard a few bloggers booked an extra night because they enjoyed it so much!
The next day we visited the Choo Choo Barn and Railroad Museum of PA.
Now I’m not a train buff by any means, but let me just say the Choo Choo Barn blew me away. Over 150 animations and 22 operating model trains – it was pretty incredible.
And visiting the Railroad Museum topped it off!
These trains were HUGE! Hearing the colorful history behind them and actually getting to set foot inside them was so surreal.
They have everything from classic woodburners and mammoth steam locomotives to sleek, electric-powered and diesel engines. Learning about the technology and personal stories of the men and women of railroading was really interesting.
At the end of our visit, my boys decided to take a little break next to one of the trains.
I was very surprised to learn that a trip to Lancaster, PA can be very affordable and not to mention lots of fun!
We had a great time and I want to thank everyone for including us on this trip. It will definitely be one that the boys will remember for a LONG time.
