Project Mom Casting; My Reality

by Life Without Pink on July 26, 2010

The first day back from maternity leave after having my second son, I was called into an early meeting. Thinking it would be a brief discussion to catch me up on what I missed, you can imagine the shock I felt when I heard the statement,

“We are laying you off.”

I went from having a corporate marketing job to staying home with my two sons in a blink of an eye.

To say the adjustment was tough is an understatement.

I had a hard time and often felt disconnected from the world. All of my friends had careers and here I was home by myself with two very spirited little boys.

To me it appeared every mom around me had it together and I was the only one internally struggling.

Motherhood is tough and going back to work would of been a lot easier for me.

I decided to embrace motherhood with all of my imperfections. But I learned that I couldn’t do it on my own. I wanted a way to connect with other women, to not feel alone in my journey.

That’s when I discovered the whole world of blogging.

The day I sat down to write my first blog post, I was completely nervous.

Nervous that I would have no readers.

Nervous that comments on my blog would be few and far between.

Nervous that I would feel all alone in this huge blogosphere.

In the early days of blogging, I didn’t know what the future would hold for me, where this blog would take me or how many friendships I would make on my journey.

All I knew was the more I learned, the more I wanted to be in the midst of this digital era. I wanted to soak up as much as I could about social media and become an active member of the community.

I wanted to use my creative side, generate new ideas and connect with as many bloggers as I could.

So I started writing about my family and life experiences.  And the comments started coming. I realized I had stories to tell…good stories in fact and I was connecting with a world I never knew existed.

We all have this “idea” of what a perfect mom looks like yet we all know she doesn’t really exist.

I have learned that motherhood comes in many different styles and we each bring our own unique strengthens {and weaknesses} to the job of mothering. The most important thing to me is to be real and accept the mother and woman that I am today.

Writing is therapeutic for me and allows me to escape reality, release my anxiety, and possibly one day help me land a job in social media.

My story has just begun.

***********************************************

*Wondering what this was all about?

The Producers of Project Mom Casting have an open casting call for savvy online mom bloggers. They will be interviewing candidates at the upcoming BlogHer 2010 to pitch a reality-based tv series about bloggers and social media. While I am not attending the conference, I only live 2 hours away so I figured why not go for it!

If you could leave me a comment, retweet this, give me a shout out to @momcasting and head over to Project Mom Casting Facebook page and click “like” under my submission {you’ll need to scroll down a bit}.

Thanks for your support!

Okay, this is so cool! I love it! You so should be in this. If you aren’t chosen, they are crazy.

That is cool. My husband said I should be in a reality show about bloggers even though he would hate it because he is anti-social.

I would just hate that I’d need to lose 20 lbs. fast and clean my house. That’s reality, sista! ;)

I can’t believe your previous employer let you go like that :( But on the bright side: it looks as though it’s really opened so many doors for you and has allowed you to connect with readers from all over the world on a topic you’re intimately familiar with: motherhood! I will do what I can to make this come true for you~I think it sounds like an amazing opportunity :) Best of luck to you!
